FIRST TRY: SAMPLE CHOPPING 101 FT. MLTZR
This event is tied to a circuit of workshops, in partnership with Multnomah County Library, called FIRST TRY. The concept behind these sessions is to create an opportunity to learn about specific aspects of audio/video and help connect the dots on how you can get started + further your understanding.
Come learn how to craft original compositions with the art of sample manipulation. Through hands-on exercises, we hope to help folks learn essential techniques for precise chopping, tempo synchronization and creative arrangement. We’ll be using Ableton as the main tool of focus for this. This class will be led by Alex Meltzer, who has without a doubt put in probably a million/billion hours nerding out and learning how to sample with many mediums of musical tools.
This workshop is FREE, so please feel free to hang out! Laptops and headphones will be available for use.

We have the special opportunity of working with the Gregory Heights Library to offer this class in Vietnamese, led by Josh Le (aka Letjoux). Josh is a day one member of EXT. 606, and is an incredible musician/artist/person. This class will focus on the foundational methods of making music within Ableton, and will be focused on serving the Vietnamese community that resides in the Portland area.

A Beat Happening: March 2024 Edition
A Beat Happening is a free, monthly, all ages, all genres, all identify inclusive music producer and DJ showcase based in Portland, Oregon. For the March 2024 edition of our 7 year anniversary series, we’ll be back with a live concert at EXT.606 recording studio. Featuring a stacked lineup of local beatmakers and DJs curated with a mix of new folks and alumni of previous ABH events over the last six years.
The show will feature a DJ set by DJ Aspen and performances by producers DinnerWitJesus (beats), Candid (rhymes), Chaz Van Queen (beats), Floyd Vader (beats), and Omari Jazz (beats). Hosted by Luvjonez and Free Tillman.
