FIRST TRY: SAMPLE CHOPPING 101 FT. MLTZR

  • Gregory Heights Library 7921 Northeast Sandy Boulevard Portland, OR, 97213 United States (map)

This event is tied to a circuit of workshops, in partnership with Multnomah County Library, called FIRST TRY. The concept behind these sessions is to create an opportunity to learn about specific aspects of audio/video and help connect the dots on how you can get started + further your understanding.

Come learn how to craft original compositions with the art of sample manipulation. Through hands-on exercises, we hope to help folks learn essential techniques for precise chopping, tempo synchronization and creative arrangement. We’ll be using Ableton as the main tool of focus for this. This class will be led by Alex Meltzer, who has without a doubt put in probably a million/billion hours nerding out and learning how to sample with many mediums of musical tools.

This workshop is FREE, so please feel free to hang out! Laptops and headphones will be available for use.

If you never thought you’d explore something like this - there’s a first try for everything.
